Jussa
I am an artist working within photography, with a keen focus on socio-political issues. My photographic career began in Liverpool where I live.
After studying Documentary Photography at University of South Wales, Newport, I developed an alternative approach to the tradition of photographic documentation through the construction of large-scale pictures – the metaimage.
My approach questions the traditional photograph, taking it beyond the immediate boundaries associated with the snapshot by extending the amount of time taken to produce a single image. The resulting artworks are large-scale photographic images, which seek to examine the relationship between people, space and place.
I shoot on film, which provides the means to produce images that have a heightened sense of clarity and precision. I then digitise the negatives to enable me to composite together a new vision – a metaimage that represents reality in a heightened hyper-real way. This technique permits each image to be viewed from a distance in their entirety and microscopically where small details can be seen.
